The team works with organic seaweed species from Ireland's west coast. They harvest some species by hand, and cultivate the seaweed in a sustainable way.
NutraMara studies these plants to better understand the compounds they contain. The team isolates specific marine compounds, and explores how to use these substances in health and skincare products.

Benefits of seaweed
The research behind SEABODY began with the study of marine molecules found in seaweed. The insights from this work inspired the development of the SEABODY range.
Seaweeds have adapted to life in the ocean over millions of years. They grow in environments shaped by waves, salt, changing temperatures, and constant exposure to the elements. To survive, they developed a range of protective and regenerative compounds.
Seaweed also provides a rich source of nutrients. It contains more than 60 micro and macronutrients. These include minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, and fiber. Seaweed also contains phytonutrients. These natural compounds occur in certain plants and have been part of coastal diets for generations.
Sustainable sourcing
SEABODY's mission is clear. The company studies marine molecules in seaweed. It aims to make their benefits easier to access. The team focuses on consumers who care about both health and sustainability.

Environmental responsibility
The team processes the seaweed soon after harvest. They do this in an organically certified facility.
"This helps us work with fresh seaweed and maintain optimum bioactivity."
For many years, seaweed extraction relied on high heat and chemical solvents. In 2017, NutraMara developed a gentler alternative. The company designed the process to avoid these methods.
Today, the process operates with zero waste.
"We use 100% of the seaweed biomass. The process produces a marine bioactive ingredient, a seaweed fiber, and algae-rich water. The ingredient and fiber are used in food and cosmetic products. We send the algae-rich water to our sister company, where it is used to make seaweed biostimulants for agriculture and horticulture. This returns nutrients back to the soil."
Optimum bioactivity
After harvesting, the seaweed is immediately processed in an organically certified plant. “This ensures fresh seaweed with optimum bioactivity.”
Traditionally, seaweed extraction relied on high temperatures and harsh chemicals. In 2017, NutraMara developed a gentler process that eliminates the need for such methods. Today, this process is fully optimized and operates with zero waste.
“100% of the seaweed biomass is utilized. The outputs include our potent marine bioactive, a seaweed fiber, and algae-rich water. Both ingredients are used for food and cosmetic applications, while the water is sent to a sister company that produces seaweed biostimulants for use in agriculture and horticulture and is therefore returned to the soil.”

For SEABODY, protecting its marine-derived ingredients is an important part of the process. This applies during extraction, storage, and in the final product.
"We started using products from the Miron range in 2018 while developing samples and looking for a strong visual impact. Because of the nature of our marine bioactives and formulations, we needed high-quality packaging. We also wanted a solution that matched our commitment to sustainability as the brand continued to grow."
Miron glass met these requirements. It supports product protection, is fully recyclable, and fits SEABODY's circular approach.
"Glass can be recycled again and again, unlike many other materials. We chose compact bottles and jars to avoid unnecessary material use. Miron glass also fits our brand from both a design and functional point of view. We were looking for dark glass, and the deep violet color works well with our formulations. The light-filtering properties were another important reason for our choice."
The role of the packaging goes beyond appearance. SEABODY wanted a solution that helped protect its formulations during storage.
By filtering light, Miron glass helps create favorable storage conditions for light-sensitive ingredients. This supports the stability of the formulations over time.
